Who Is Satoshi

Satoshi Nakamoto is the name used by the creator of Bitcoin. On October thirty-first, two thousand eight, Satoshi published the Bitcoin whitepaper. On January third, two thousand nine, Satoshi mined the very first block, the genesis block. It contained a newspaper headline about banks being bailed out.

Building the Network

Early on, Satoshi worked with a small group of programmers and cryptographers. The first Bitcoin transaction went from Satoshi to cryptographer Hal Finney. Satoshi wrote code, emails and forum posts, but never revealed a real identity. Around two thousand ten and eleven, Satoshi handed over the project and went quiet.

The Mystery

Many people have been suggested, but Satoshi's identity has never been proven. Researchers estimate Satoshi mined around a million coins that have never moved. The smallest unit of Bitcoin, the sat, is named after Satoshi. Today Bitcoin runs without its creator. No single person controls it.
