Pools, not individual miners, usually decide which transactions go into a block. If you care about censorship resistance, look at pools where miners can build their own block templates (OCEAN with DATUM, Stratum V2 job declaration) or mine solo, and avoid adding to the largest pools.

How to choose a pool and connect your ASIC
- Payout scheme: FPPS / PPS+ pay a steady daily amount (the pool takes the luck risk, so fees are higher). PPLNS / TIDES pay only when the pool finds blocks: lower fees, more variance.
- Fee: compare the fee together with the scheme. 2.5% FPPS and 0% PPLNS are not the same product.
- Minimum payout: at ≈1034 EH/s one 200 TH/s machine earns about 0.00009 BTC a day from the block subsidy (plus a little in fees), so a 0.005 BTC threshold means a payout roughly every 8 weeks. Lightning payouts (Braiins, OCEAN) remove the wait.
- Custody and KYC: most pools hold your balance until payout and need an account. OCEAN pays straight from the coinbase; solo pools need no account at all.
- Latency: pick a server close to you (lower stale/rejected shares).
- Solo is a lottery: at today's ≈1034 EH/s a 200 TH/s miner should expect one block every ~98 years on average, a 1.2 TH/s Bitaxe every ~16,377 years.
- Create an account and a sub-account on the pool (skip for OCEAN / solo pools).
- Find the miner's IP on your LAN (router list or the vendor's IP tool) and open it in a browser.
- Miner configuration → Pool 1/2/3: URL = the pool's stratum address, Worker = account.workerName (or bc1youraddress.workerName on OCEAN / solo), Password = x (usually ignored).
- Fill Pool 2 and 3 with backup ports or another pool so the machine never idles.
- Save, wait 5–10 minutes and check that the worker appears on the pool dashboard.
Pool 1 stratum+tcp://stratum.braiins.com:3333 userName.s19-01 x Pool 2 stratum+tcp://stratum.braiins.com:443 userName.s19-01 x Pool 3 stratum+tcp://mine.ocean.xyz:3334 bc1q….s19-01 x
Example only, from the pools' official docs. Stratum V2 URLs (stratum2+tcp://…) need SV2-capable firmware such as Braiins OS.
Not investment advice. Pool terms change; always confirm on the pool's own site before pointing hashrate.
Home solo miners
Small, quiet machines that try to find a whole block on their own. Honest framing: this is a lottery ticket that also heats your room and teaches you how mining works, not an income. Odds below are live, from current network difficulty.
difficulty 140.58 T · network ≈ 1035 EH/s · 2026-10-22 18:59 UTC · specs checked 2026-10-10
Each hash wins with probability 1 / (difficulty × 2³²). At difficulty 140.58 T, expected blocks per day = your hashrate × 86,400 / (difficulty × 2³²). Every hash is an independent draw: there is no "progress" and no "due" block. Someone does win now and then: solo pools such as solo.ckpool list the blocks their small miners have found on mempool.space. That is what a lottery looks like.

* mined ÷ supply at start of year.
2009 includes the genesis block (50 BTC that can never be spent) and the early Satoshi-era period when very few people mined; around a million coins mined then are widely attributed to Satoshi and have never moved.
Figures follow the protocol schedule; a handful of early blocks claimed slightly less than allowed, so real supply is a few BTC lower. Year boundary = last block with a timestamp before 1 Jan 00:00 UTC.
