What it does
RGB describes itself as the open-source protocol for issuing and transferring digital assets natively on Bitcoin and Lightning, using client-side validation.
Background
RGB is supported by the RGB Protocol Association, a Swiss foundation; its specifications, code and schemas are open source [rgb.info]. The project says RGB is enforced by cryptography and Bitcoin consensus, with no federations or custodians, and makes digital assets such as stablecoins transferable over Lightning. RGB v0.11.1 launched on Bitcoin mainnet in July 2025; Iris Wallet is available on desktop and mobile, and developer tools include RGB Lib, the RGB Sandbox and the RGB Lightning Node.
