Background
BitBox is made by Shift Crypto AG, a privately held company based in Zurich [bitbox.swiss]. The line started in 2015 with the BitBox01 (the Digital BitBox) by Douglas Bakkum and Jonas Schnelli, and the BitBox02 followed in 2019. Its dual-chip design pairs fully open-source firmware with a secure chip (EAL6+ certified on the BitBox02 Nova), and the company announced Lightning payments in the BitBoxApp [bitbox.swiss].
